The Norcross Art Splash, returning to downtown Norcross 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 7 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 8, is the backbone of the city’s Splash Festivals’ Grant Program. The program, established in 2015, donates a significant portion of the profits from Norcross Art Splash for the purposes of art and education within the city.
“It is important to help inspire students to learn more about the arts and realize the impact it can make in their lives and the community.” said Art Splash Producer Cindy Flynn. “We also want to continue to cultivate a growing arts scene in Norcross.”
Four groups applied for grants in 2016 and all received their requested funding. Gardens4GrowingCommunity Inc. received funding for five “story poles” to be placed inside the circular garden bed at Summerour Middle School. The garden is part of the school’s outdoor Environmental Education Center.
Norcross High School Foundation for Excellence Inc. was able to purchase a multiplex display/exhibit system for students to display their artwork.
The Norcross Discovery Garden Park grant provided a circular arbor for their new garden. The city committed to fund the balance of the project once the grant was awarded.
Funds were also made available to Kudzu Art Zone to provide art supplies for their “Unlock the Arts” summer camp. This program serves the artistically, talented middle students from the under-served community in the Norcross area.
