A fight between roommates in a Smyrna hotel over a bottle of urine led to a brawl involving a knife and a chair.

Ashley Ricardo Brown of Marietta was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to a Smyrna Police Department warrant.

The hotel — Sun Suites, 3000 Highlands Parkway SE — is a common gathering spot and temporary place to sleep for the homeless, said Smyrna police spokesman Louis Defense.

Brown and the man were placed together in a room Sept. 27. It wasn't clear from the warrant whether they knew each other.

"Apparently one of the two parties has some type of medical problem" and carries around a bottle to urinate into in case he can't get to the bathroom in time, Defense said. The man used the bottle in their hotel room, "and his roommate was offended."

The men got into a shouting match, then Brown went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife, the warrant said. The other man grabbed a chair to defend himself, but the men tussled and Brown tried to stab his roommate.

The other man got free and went to a room a couple doors down, but Brown burst in with the knife and they fought again. The roommate left the fight with small cuts on two of his fingers.

Charges for marijuana possession and attempting to sneak contraband into jail were added after he was arrested, according to jail records.

Brown was previously barred from from the hotel a month prior. The warrant from that time mentioned he had a knife hidden in his belt.
