Preliminary plans for a development featuring 35 townhomes were presented during an Avondale Estates commission work session Feb. 14.

The site, now green space with some soccer goals, was once home to the original Avondale High School, which burned in the early 1950s. For years it was a MARTA storage site for buses.

Essentially it’s 2.2 acres, a triangle bordered by the Atlanta-Stone Mountain trail, Wells Street and Hobbs Street that runs about 200 yards before ending in a cul-de-sac. Very preliminary plans call for taking out the cul-de-sac and bending Hobbs to the right where it would cut through the green space and end at Wells.

The town homes, roughly 1600 to 2000 square feet, would front Wells, Hobbs and the trail. A park would lie in the middle with miniature pocket parks in the development’s three corners.

Jason Braga, Director of Acquisitions for developer Icon Residential, said he would have a better idea for a construction time frame after next month when plans get submitted for rezoning.

Bryan Musolf, owner and principal with InLine Communities, purchased the land last year from MARTA and is selling to Icon.
