The proposed annexation of the Druid Hills Neighborhood into Atlanta would put DeKalb schools Briar Vista and Fernbank Elementary, along with Druid Hills High into the Atlanta Public School system.
Avondale Estates has 33 children attending DHHS according to DeKalb County School District spokesman Quinn Hudson, with Acting Mayor Terry Giager saying he expects that number will only get larger.
“Although the city doesn’t keep those numbers,” Giager said, “the majority of our kids are under 12. We’ll have a whole bunch going into high school shortly, and if we lose [DHHS] I’m hearing we could get either Columbia or Towers [High Schools].”
