Motorists who travel Rucker Road in Alpharetta this month will see the first signs of a nearly two-year project to rebuild the highway – with the biggest impact to come next summer, when the road will shut down entirely for bridge replacements.

“We know that the road closure will be a significant inconvenience to motorists, but construction crews will be able to complete the work much more quickly” — an estimated six months faster, said Alpharetta Public Works Director Pete Sewczwicz.

Survey crews are out, digital information signs will soon go up, and orange erosion-control fencing and barrels will follow. The work will go until August 2019.

The Rucker Road Corridor Improvement Project extends west from Wills Road to the city limits. It is intended to improve safety and traffic flow and reduce vehicle speeds. Two roundabouts, at Charlotte Drive and at the entrances of the Fairfax and Northfield neighborhoods, are planned, as are pedestrian, streetscape and aesthetic enhancements, officials said.
