Timed parking is coming to downtown Alpharetta, as the city introduces two-hour limits on most on-street parking spaces and on the public lot off Old Roswell Street effective July 6.

City economic development manager Samir Abdullahi said it’s an effort to make it easier for customers of downtown businesses to find convenient parking. Abdullahi said their studies showed that 94 percent of the closest-in spots were taken up by downtown business employees by 9:30 a.m. on an average weekday, deterring some residents from visiting downtown. Abdullahi said projections showed that each well-managed space would translate into more than $100,000 in sales for downtown businesses.

Downtown business employees are being encouraged to park in outlying lots or in the 450-space parking deck adjacent to city hall instead.
