In a departure from longtime Arbor Day tradition, rather than plant a single tree in a city park, the Alpharetta Natural Resources Commission announced a native tree and shrub sale to raise money for the Tree Bank Fund.

“We wanted to do something that would add to Alpharetta’s tree canopy while raising awareness of the fact that the majority of land available for planting is privately held by Alpharetta homeowners,” said commission Chairperson Deb Zemlock.

The group is subsidizing the cost of the plants and suggests a donation of $10 for a three-gallon shrub and $24 for a seven-gallon tree. The offer is for Alpharetta residents only. Supplies are limited; only one plant will be sold per address. Free mulch also will be available. To view the selection and place an order: https://bit.ly/37XJ1Fz

Plants will be available for pick-up at the Farm at Old Rucker Park, 860 Rucker Road, Alpharetta, between 3 and 7 p.m., March 6; 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., March 7; and 1 and 3 p.m., March 21. Information: https://bit.ly/2wEzkid
