Alpharetta has updated its alcohol ordinances to permit consumption at art studios, galleries and cooking classes, and to expand wine tastings provisions and allow retailers to charge for tastings.
The changes allow a cooking class participant at a retail establishment to bring one unopened bottle of wine to consume with the meal prepared as part of the class, providing the establishment does not charge a corking fee, charges the same fees for classes with or without wine and closes no later than 10 p.m., among other requirements.
Art galleries and art studios can obtain a license for sale of alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises without meeting the requirement for a full-service kitchen, or that at least half of sales must be derived from food.
An ancillary wine-tasting license would be available to a package wine license holder for a $250 fee. The retailer would have to offer at least 25 different brands of wine, and no tastings would be allowed on Sundays, among other rules. The amended ordinance also recognizes state law that now permits certain on-site sales at breweries.
