The Alpharetta City Council has approved plans for a downtown parking deck for Milton Avenue west of Roswell Street in the downtown area.

After discussion about the growing demand for parking downtown, council members Monday approved a contract with the Christman Co. to build a deck with three levels and about 190 spaces, for $5.9 million; and a fourth level with 73 spaces for an additional $983,000.

The council in February adopted a plan that called for two new downtown decks, on Milton and on Old Roswell Street. That decision followed six months of debate on future downtown parking.
