The Alpharetta City Council has approved three design contracts totaling $585,330 for Windward Parkway in the vicinity of Ga. 400.

Tetra Tech Inc. was awarded a $302,830 contract to design improvements for eastbound Windward from Westside to North Point parkways; and a $210,500 contract to design improvements for westbound Windward from North Point to Ga. 400. The council also approved a $72,000 project management contract with Atkins North America Inc.

The designs are to include a third travel lane for eastbound Windward between Westside and the Ga. 400 southbound on-ramp; a third travel lane for westbound Windward from North Point to the Ga. 400 northbound on-ramp; and a lengthening of the existing dual-left-turn lanes from westbound Windward to southbound North Point.

Tetra Tech also is to prepare a concept plan for a third, eastbound travel lane for Windward from the Ga. 400 southbound on-ramp to North Point.

The typical roadway cross-section will include 11-foot travel lanes, a 4-foot bike lane and 6-foot-wide sidewalks, staff said.

From the notice to proceed, westbound designs are to be finished within 205 days; and eastbound plans, within 260 days, staff said. Both projects will occur in parallel.
