The city of Alpharetta is kicking off the process of determining what its new downtown arts center will look like.

In December, the council voted to accept Fulton County’s donation of its former library branch at 233 Canton Street, which was shut down when Fulton County moved operations to a new branch next door to city hall. The city had donated three acres of land for the updated facility.

A general community meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the arts center space, 233 Canton St. to discuss ideas and concepts. In addition, the city will host a series of meetings for various special interest groups Tuesday and Wednesday, such as potential education partners, performance, theater groups and local arts businesses.

Preliminary discussion has centered around the center having gallery and teaching space, a theater and other features to support ongoing exhibits and classes. More information: Alpharetta.ga.us.
