A center turn lane, roundabout and sidewalks are planned as part of a $2.6 million contract awarded by the Alpharetta City Council for improvements to Morris Road.

Vertical Earth Inc. submitted the lowest of five bids for the work, which calls for providing two lanes of travel in each direction on Morris from Old Milton Parkway to Preston Ridge Road; and converting one of the two northbound lanes of Morris to a center turn lane between Preston Ridge and Webb Bridge roads.

Plans by Pond and Co. also specify a roundabout at Morris and Preston Ridge, and sidewalks along both sides of Morris from Old Milton to Webb Bridge.

The project will be funded by the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax and is to begin as soon as the contract with Vertical Earth is finalized and executed, staff said. All work is expected to be completed no more than 365 days from the notice to proceed.
