Alleged Crips gang members indicted in killing of 11-year-old

Three people were indicted on Tuesday in connection with a shooting that killed an 11-year-old DeKalb County boy who was asleep in his bed.

A DeKalb grand jury returned a 59-count gang indictment against Cody Bauer, Alexander Sidloskas and Stedmund Anthony, a spokesperson for DeKalb District Attorney Gwen Keyes Fleming said. They are charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and multiple violations under the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, said Orzy Theus, the district attorney's spokesperson.

The indictments follow the February death of Nicholas Sheffey. He was struck in the head by one of seven bullets fired into his Chamblee home, and he died five days later.

Police have said the actions of Sheffey's 16-year-old brother led to the tragedy. After the shooting, he was arrested and charged with armed robbery for an alleged home invasion in December. Police have said they believe that the shooting at the Sheffey home was in retaliation. Police have withheld the older brother's name because he is a juvenile, but they've said he would not face charges related to his brother's death.

The three people indicted Tuesday are alleged to be members of the Crips, a national collection of street gangs, Theus said. Bauer also was charged with two separate incidences of gang-related activity: an armed robbery and multiple counts of gang-related tagging for allegedly spray painting Crips graffiti on buildings, he added.
