The reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect in the shooting of a Cobb County police officer July 12 just got bigger.

The National Police Defense Foundation is adding a $10,000 Safe Cop Reward to the $5,000 already offered for information leading to the man who shot Officer Daniel Rogers.

The suspect is described as 19 to 21 years of age. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and khaki pants. His hair is described as short with twists. He was armed with a handgun, according to Cobb police spokesman Mike Bowman.

While Cobb police were canvasing an area near the Concord Chase Apartments in search of a stolen police rifle, Rogers encountered a suspicious individual and the man fled, according to Bowman.

“During the pursuit, the suspect produced a handgun and shot the officer one time in the chest,” Bowman said.

The officer was hit in his departmental issued ballistic vest. He was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released, according to Bowman.

Anyone with information on the gunman’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477.
