The Acworth Board of Aldermen voted 5-0 Thursday to approve travel for around a dozen underserved teens to Boston, Massachusetts for an educational trip.

The cost of $17,388 to Educational Travel Consultants is being paid by a private benefactor and grant funding for this Expanding Horizons trip that will last five to six days on their spring break.

City Manager Brian M. Bulthuis told the AJC similar educational trips have been taken by Acworth teens to Washington, D.C., New York City and Philadelphia on the first plane trips for many of them.

The teens all are involved in a mentoring/tutoring program at the city’s Roberts School Community Center.

In 2010, Acworth was named an All America City by the National Civic League for this program, Acworth Achievers and the Horizon Field.
