The Roswell Police Department is hosting a class for the public on how civilians should respond in the event of an active shooter.

The class is free and no registration is required.

Zion Missionary Baptist Church will host the class from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 8.

The course is designed and built on the ADD — avoid, deny, defend — strategy, which was developed in 2004. The course will provide strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event, Roswell police say.

Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues and considerations for conducting drills. Members of the community who wish to attend need only bring a good attitude and open mind, Roswell police say.

The police department warns that the presentation contains graphic images and videos of simulated and actual violence, and may not be suitable for children.
