Two pet rescue organizations are offering a collective $10,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the lengthy neglect of two puppies, the groups announced this week.

The related 10-month-old beagles were found abandoned and severely emaciated on the side of a DeKalb County road in early June. Jill Williams saw them while driving by and alerted DeKalb County Animal Control, who contacted Angels Among Us.

The dogs started receiving medical care. However, the female, named Lorien, did not survive. Her brother, Mirkwood, is recovering at a foster home.

The Humane Society of the United States and Angels Among Us are offering the rewards.

Angels Among Us is directing people with information to contact DeKalb County Animal Control at 404-294-2939.

The Humane Society is also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the case of a Chow Chow mix dog buried alive in DeKalb County.

The dog, named Lulu by her rescuer, died just hours after being freed from tightly packed ground on a trail in Tucker.

Calls to DeKalb Animal services for comment were not answered Thursday.
