Wage garnishments can resume in Gwinnett

Wage garnishments will again be allowed in Gwinnett County, nearly a month after a federal judge stopped all garnishments there.

The judge called Georgia’s garnishment law unconstitutional, but relented Monday and said that an earlier lawsuit didn’t address wage garnishments. Garnishments from bank accounts will still not be permitted in Gwinnett, and several other counties have stopped garnishments entirely or changed their own procedures while they waited for the state to alter the law.
