Voters will have the final say Tuesday on whether to form the cities of LaVista Hills and Tucker, a decision that could result in new governments for more than 100,000 people.

If approved, the proposed municipalities would continue Metro Atlanta's trend toward cityhood that began with Sandy Springs in 2005. LaVista Hills and Tucker would become the eighth and ninth new cities in the region.

Cityhood supporters say they want more local control of their communities, but opponents say the cities would further divide DeKalb County without any benefit.
