On Thursday, Courtney English withdrew his request for a recount in the race for the post 1 at-large seat. His attorney told elections officials that certified vote tallies showed neither English nor his opponent, incumbent City Councilman Michael Julian Bond, secured a majority of votes cast.

Results indicate Bond received 49.97 percent of the vote and English 49.52 percent. There were 422 write-in votes, or 0.51 percent of the vote.

Bond said he won the race because write-in votes don’t count if they aren’t cast for an eligible write-in candidate.
