The first month of the 2012 fiscal year saw Georgia's tax collections rise by more than 7 percent compared to July 2010, Gov. Nathan Deal's office said Tuesday.
Deal said net tax collections were up $84 million in July.
"The first month of this fiscal year has continued the trend of year-on-year comparison growth," Deal said in a statement. "I am encouraged by the results but will watch Georgia's revenue numbers closely to ensure we maintain a conservative state budget."
Deal's Office of Planning and Budget last week instructed most state agencies to propose budgets for the next fiscal year that are 2 percent less than their current funding levels.
In July, individual income tax collections were up $120.5 million -- or 22.5 percent -- over July 2010. Sales tax collections actually fell in July by $5 million, or 1.1 percent.
In all, Georgia collected a net $1.2 billion in taxes for the month.
