Gwinnett County will hold a Thursday meeting to talk about the plans for its newest park.
Simpsonwood, which Gwinnett purchased from the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church earlier this year for $14 million, will fill the need for a large open park space in western Gwinnett, according to the county.
Its purchase was funded by SPLOST.
The Thursday meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at the Norcross High School Theater at 5300 Spalding Drive. Those who attend can apply to be on a steering committee that will create the park’s master plan.
The 223-acre park in Peachtree Corners is on the Chattahoochee River. The land was originally donated to the church by Norcross teacher Ludie Simpson in 1973, who requested it not be "chopped into smaller parcels or exploited or despoiled."
