Late fees removed after DeKalb water billing problem

DeKalb County will reimburse about 8,500 people who were charged late fees after they never received their December water bills.

These residents instead were mailed January bills that came with a 10 percent late penalty and threatened to cut off their water service unless the balance was paid.

A printing error prevented affected residents from receiving their December bills, according to a Feb. 9 letter from DeKalb Deputy Chief Financial Officer Stefan Jaskulak.

The county has removed the late fees from customer accounts, and any credit card fees associated with bills are in the process of being credited, said DeKalb spokeswoman Emily Schwarz.

Residents with concerns or questions about their bills can contact the county at 404-378-4475 or email dekalbwaterbillingfn@dekalbcountyga.gov.
