Incentives offered to buy a house in DeKalb

Buying a house in DeKalb is getting less expensive for people who work in the county.

The Decide DeKalb Development Authority, the county’s economic development agency, recently launched a program that gives a “home purchase assistance gift” worth between 3 percent and 4 percent of a home’s mortgage amount.

The WE DeKalb Program is an incentive to employees and businesses that are relocating to DeKalb, and it’s also designed to encourage employees of existing DeKalb businesses to move to the county.

Borrowers who use a participating lender can receive a down payment assistance grant, with the amount of the assistance depending on the mortgage rate.

The program is open to families of two who have an annual income less than $81,900, and to families of three or more with income below $95,600.

The maximum eligible mortgage is $342,700 for mortgages insured by the Federal Housing Administration and $417,000 for mortgages guaranteed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
