Gov. Nathan Deal signed a bill Thursday calling for a referendum on the creation of the city of Stonecest in southeast DeKalb County.

Voters will decide whether to incorporate their area during an election Nov. 8.

The city of Stonecrest would include about 50,000 people near the city of Lithonia and Stonecrest Mall in the area surrounding I-20.

The Georgia General Assembly approved the Stonecrest cityhood legislation, Senate Bill 208, last month.
