Ferdinand trial postponed

July 28, 2015

A trial in a lawsuit pitting two of Fulton County’s top officials against each other has been postponed.

County Commissioner Liz Hausmann filed the lawsuit, accusing Tax Commissioner Arthur Ferdinand of abusing the power of his office when he revoked her vehicle registration in 2013. Hausmann says the move was an act of political payback. Ferdinand has said he did nothing wrong.

The trial was set for Aug. 3 but has been postponed until Sept. 14, court records show. Hausmann requested the delay, citing the prospect of a settlement and the fact that her daughter – a potential witness – would be out of town.

Ferdinand’s legal bills – paid for by the county – have cost taxpayers nearly $137,000 so far.
