With all but a few precincts reporting, DeKalb County Commissioner Gregory Adams is running far behind his challenger in a race that has focused largely on sexual assault allegations.
Businesswoman Lorraine Cochran-Johnson challenged Adams for the District 7 seat that represents the eastern half of the county.
Adams was elected in 2016 and ran this year for his first full term in office. The sexual assault allegations from his former aide loomed large over the race.
Cochran-Johnson distributed flyers and promotional materials that mentioned the investigation and its fallout. During a Board of Commissioners meeting last month, Adams tearfully denied the accusations although a county investigation had already determined he broke anti-harassment policies.
His accuser, Ashlee Wright, has also sued Adams and his wife for defamation.
The other DeKalb County-specific race on the ballot is a runoff for the person who will replace retiring Superior Court Judge Daniel Coursey. In early returns, Latisha Dear-Jackson pulled ahead of Tunde Akinyele.
In both races, Tuesday’s election will determine the winner.
