A DeKalb County hotel with a giant unpaid water bill now doesn’t have any water service at all.
The county government announced Tuesday it shut off water service to Economy Inn on Wesley Chapel Road, which owed about $209,000 in outstanding water bills.
Without water service, the Economy Inn won't be able to continue doing business.
“We are working diligently to meet the challenge of dilapidated hotels in our communities by taking on the worst offenders,” said Interim DeKalb CEO Lee May. “Addressing long-term unpaid water bills is one means we have to accomplish this.”
Economy Inn was initially given until Sept. 23 to pay off its water bill, and then its owner was given an extension with the option to set up a payment plan, according to the county.
No one answered a phone call to the hotel Tuesday.
Economy Inn was one of three hotels the county identified as having high numbers of crime, citations and past-due water bills.
Two other hotels, A2B Budget Hotel on Ember Drive and Affordable Hotel on Glenfair Road, paid off bills of $94,728 and $47,028 in September.
