DeKalb County Commissioner Kathie Gannon is being opposed by a politically connected consultant, Warren Mosby, in a race to represent the western half of the county.

Gannon, who was first elected in 2004, says Mosby is running against her to further the agenda of one of her rivals on the board, Commissioner Sharon Barnes Sutton. Sutton has had a close personal relationship with Mosby, and she has paid him more than $34,000 for consulting work.

Mosby says if he’s elected, he would dedicate more government attention to the southern part of the county.

The Democratic primary election for DeKalb Commission District 6 will be held May 24.
