A search committee is interviewing five candidates this week for the next chancellor for the University System of Georgia.

Twenty people applied, said Susan Herbst, a committee member and the system's chief academic officer. The committee is not required to release candidates' names.

Following the interviews, the committee will make recommendations to the State Board of Regents. The regents are scheduled to conduct interviews in April.

Chancellor Erroll Davis will retire when his contract expires at the end of June.
