The Cobb Commission on Tuesday delayed a vote on new rules for how private parks are permitted.

The county in April placed a moratorium on new private parks after a controversial private park in western Cobb County, which will have baseball, soccer and lacrosse fields, was permitted without going through the public hearing process. Rob Hosack, director of the county’s community development department, has said there is no clear definition for private parks in the county code, and the commission wants his staff to recommend changes.

Those changes, as proposed, would require all future private parks go through the Planning Commission.

Commissioner JoAnn Birrell requested the delay in voting on the issue, saying that she has received many email from the public and would like county staff to respond to them. The change is now scheduled for a May 12 vote.
