Cobb County government is closing early Tuesday and opening late Wednesday in anticipation of freezing weather and possible snow.

Government buildings, including libraries, will close at 6 p.m. this evening and open at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.

The decision was made in an effort to reduce travel time on potentially dangerous roads.

The transportation department spent Tuesday treating bridges and other “known trouble spots” with brine to prevent ice from forming, according to a statement from the county.

“We like to prepare for the worst and hope for the best,” Road Maintenance Director Bill Shelton said in the statement.

He said the brine mixture should be effective for 48 hours.

Cobb is set to experience between a ½ inch and an inch of snow starting late Tuesday afternoon, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.
