Closure of South DeKalb job center opposed

The Georgia Department of Labor is being asked to reconsider its decision to close an office that provided job training and career support services in South DeKalb.

The DeKalb County Commission approved a resolution this month requesting that the state reopen the site.

“This move creates a severe lack of services and accessibility for job seekers in South DeKalb and must be reassessed,” said Commissioner Larry Johnson in an email.

The Covington Highway career was permanently closed this spring after a car crash damaged the building, which was leased by the state.

Services at that office were relocated to the North Metro Career Center on North Druid Hills Road.
