Georgia Gwinnett College is one step away from getting almost 8 acres of property and a building owned by the state Department of Transportation for free.

The Georgia House on Thursday approved Senate Resolution 114, which would transfer to the fast-growing college a former car lot that is directly across Ga. 316 from the campus. The measure passed 165-1.

The property -- part of the right of way that the DOT bought to rebuild interchanges in the area -- will likely become labs for the college’s digital media program.

The legislation now heads to Gov. Nathan Deal to sign into law.
