The Atlanta Braves could construct the tallest building in Cobb after winning approval from the Board of Commissioners to increase the maximum height of a proposed office complex next to SunTrust Park.

The height restriction was bumped up to 420 feet--about 120 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty, including the pedestal. The site is already zoned for commercial use.

The county said it could be weeks before the mess is cleaned up.

BRED Co, LLC, the Braves’ real estate arm, still needs to clear the plan with the Federal Aviation Administration due to the site’s proximity to Dobbins Air Reserve Base, said Commissioner Bob Ott.

“The research I did, it’s not going to create a problem,” said Ott, a commercial pilot.

The plot, located south of Circle 75 parkway and on the north side of Interstate 285, is under consideration by German industrial giant Thyssenkrupp as a potential site for a research and development facility.
