In addition to checking Facebook, you soon may be able to check your breath for diseases with a device that attaches to your smartphone.
High-tech breathalyzer screening technology has been developed by Professor Hossam Haick, of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. Now Haick wants to bring that technology to people's smartphones, according to Science Daily.
Nicknamed the “SNIFFPHONE,” the project is backed by a $6.8 million grant from the European Commission. The device, which attaches to smartphones, will use micro-sensors and an information-processing system to analyze a breath sample.
Haick said that the device will be thinner and cheaper than current models and consume little power. The device is designed to provide accurate, non-invasive and immediate disease detection results.
