A state inmate who walked away from a prison work detail Monday afternoon has been recaptured in DeKalb County.
Hall County Correctional Institute Warden Walt Davis told The Gainesville Times that Derrick Crawford, 35, was found about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“He was apprehended last evening by the fugitive squad in DeKalb County at a girlfriend’s home, outside the girlfriend’s home actually,” Davis told The Times.
Davis said authorities “did arrest several other individuals for assisting him in his escape.” Their names were not immediately available.
Crawford is a state inmate serving a 10-year sentence for trafficking cocaine out of Douglas County, officials from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office wrote on the department’s Facebook page.
