A Macon hairstylist said she’s “shaken” after one of her customers had to lift her from the ground to avoid being hit by a car ramming into her salon window Monday.
The stylist, Rhonda Strickland, said she was slightly warned of the oncoming crash into the salon, which she manages, from her peripheral view about 6:15 p.m., she told Fox affiliate WGXA.
While cutting a customer’s hair, she noticed an older-model Toyota Camry speed toward the glass front of the salon, which is in the 4000 block of Hartley Bridge Road in Macon. The car came full speed into the salon.
“I was in the middle of cutting his hair, and I saw something out of the corner of my eye,” Strickland said. “Yeah, we're shaken up!”
That customer, Matthew Osborne, said he snapped into action immediately.
“I just heard like a big explosion. It sounded like a bomb was going off, man, then I knew it wasn’t normal, so I just jumped up and looked, then the car was coming in, so I just grabbed her and pulled her to the wall because it was probably a foot from us,” he told the news station.
The driver, identified as 59-year-old Thi Ngoc Thuy Pham, lost control of his car while attempting to make a U-turn and crashing into the Great Clips, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release. None of the several workers and stylists in the building were injured.
There was a delay in assessing what caused the crash because of a language barrier, deputies said. Charges have not been filed, but the sheriff’s office is seeking more information about the incident.
