A Henry County construction worker and grandfather of 15 won the top prize of $250,000 in a scratch-off game, the Georgia Lottery said.

Donald Earnest, 69, of McDonough, bought a $5 Monopoly Millionaires’ Club ticket at the South Ola BP on Ga. 81 and scratched it while in his car.

“I just couldn’t believe it,” Earnest said. “I had to keep checking the ticket to make sure I wasn’t seeing things.”

Self-employed in construction, Earnest and his wife, Becky, have five adult children and 15 grandchildren.

The lucky winner, who claimed his prize Friday, plans to pay off bills with his windfall.
