Friday’s Google Doodle − using the letters in the term “Google” − shows various ways citizens can enjoy their time at home as the world waits out the COVID-19 crisis.
The quirky doodle, called the “Stay Home, Save Lives” doodle, represents the activities possible at home, including working out, playing music, reading and chatting on the phone. Staying home and away from other people has been considered the top line of defense against the virus.
The novel coronavirus that emerged last year has drastically changed the way of life for people across the globe. Because it is highly contagious and can be present in asymptomatic patients, medical experts have suggested that social distancing is the key to ebbing the spread. Several countries have issued national lockdowns, while America has had most of its states adopt stay-at-home orders to adhere to social distancing. The latest figures show that more than 55,000 people have died from the virus, and there are more than 1 million confirmed cases.
Google used Friday’s doodle as an opportunity to inform people worldwide about best practices to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
You can protect yourself and help prevent spreading the virus to others if you:
Do
Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub
Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze
Avoid close contact (3 feet) with people who are unwell
Stay home and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell
Don’t
Touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
