Georgia Lottery players a ‘little’ lucky, but more’s at stake Wednesday
How ginormous is Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot estimated at $485 million?
Big enough that it dwarfs the kind of lottery winnings that on other days would make your head spin and your eyes pop.
Consider the $384,000 won by Bettie Bryant. The 61-year-old Lithonia woman took that prize in the Feb. 5 Fantasy 5 drawing, matching all five needed numbers.
“I was jumping up and down, shouting,” she said. “It feels great.”
Bryant and her husband, Dwayne, would probably have felt even greater, though, if their luck had waited a week or so and they won $484 million more.
Then there’s Derrick Spence Sr. of Oxford. He bought a Georgia Lottery instant ticket at a Shell Food Mart in Decatur and claimed his prize Feb. 2.
His winnings: $350,000.
It’s actually even better that that, because Spence won in the $350,000 Taxes Paid game. So, he gets his money free and clear of government interference.
Still, compared to $485 million …
It should be noted, however, that neither Bryant nor Spence are known to have expressed regret over their good fortune.
