The arrest of a black man in southwest Georgia has drawn the attention of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Several Adel police officers were arresting a man identified by WCTV as Gary Thomas when the arrest was filmed by at least two bystanders.
Now the GBI is investigating allegations of excessive force.
“The city of Adel and the Adel Police Department take seriously any reports of excessive force utilized by an officer,” the city said in a news release. One of the officers allegedly involved was placed on administrative leave.
Police told WCTV the suspect was wanted on charges of aggravated battery against a law enforcement officer, giving false information to a law enforcement officer and violation of the controlled substance act.
He also had an outstanding warrant for a probation violation, according to police.
