Family and friends will say goodbye this weekend to a man who was fatally shot by DeKalb County police on Monday.
A funeral will be held for Anthony Hill on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Berkeley High School Auditorium in Moncks Corner, S.C. He will be interred in Baylor's Haven Rest Cemetery. The previous day, a viewing will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. at Gethers Funeral Home, also in Moncks Corner.
Police were responding to a “suspicious person” report at the Heights at Chamblee apartments when Hill, who was unarmed and naked, was shot by Officer Robert Olsen on Monday, authorities said.
Hill ran at the officer and ignored demands to stop before the officer shot him twice, said Cedric Alexander, director of the county public safety department. Hill appeared to be mentally ill, he said.
The GBI is investigating, and Olsen, a seven-year veteran of the force, is on administrative leave.
The shooting has spurred protests.
Justin Grant, who said he was best friends with Hill, called him “a loving person, a great person. Everybody around him loved him. He smiled every time you saw him.”
