Fulton County police are investigating the death of a person found dead Friday morning in the southern part of the county after K-9 units chasing a suspect came across the body.

Police spokeswoman Kay Lester told Channel 2 Action News that the medical examiner had been summoned to the scene of a death investigation at Cochran Road and Stonewall Tell Road.

Police told the station that officers were chasing a man who ran into some woods, and when K-9 units were brought out, they discovered human bones.

Officers say the body they found was so decomposed, they couldn’t tell if the it was a man or woman.

Investigators have not yet released the estimated age or gender of the person or said how that person died.
