The Fox Theatre announced Saturday night it will close for at least two weeks amid coronavirus concerns.

“As we navigate the escalating and continually evolving COVID-19 situation, and with Governor Brian Kemp’s declaration of a Public Health Emergency in Georgia as of March 14, the Fox Theatre is temporarily closing effective immediately,” it tweeted.

Early Saturday, Kemp declared an unprecedented public health emergency to help contain the spread of the coronavirus, as the number of cases in Georgia rose overnight to 66.

The announcement comes on the heels of similar decisions by Zoo Atlanta, area churches and Atlanta Botanical Garden.

“Ticketholders of Miss Saigon, AllStar Legends of Hip Hop, Bill Maher and Fox Theatre tours impacted by this closure will be notified by email of next steps,” the Fox tweeted. “We thank our patrons in advance for their patience as we field a high volume of inquiries during this unprecedented event.”

Broadway in Atlanta posted on Facebook that patrons should hold on to their "Miss Saigon" tickets in anticipation of the production being rescheduled.

Right now, all other Broadway in Atlanta performances —including next month’s return of “Hamilton” — are expected to go on as scheduled. If that changes, ticketholders will be notified via email.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
