Forsyth County fire officials have identified the victim of a Monday morning house blaze.

Richard Hunt, 57, who lived by himself, died in his home in the 7700 block of Holyoke Road. The case is still under investigation and no cause has been determined yet, Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Tuesday.

Officials believe the fire was accidental, Shivers said.

Multiple calls were made to 911 around 9:30 a.m. Monday with reports of a single-story house burning. When firefighters arrived, smoke and flames were coming out of several windows of the house. Because there was no one outside the home when trucks arrived, firefighters searched inside and found Hunt already dead.

Shivers said there was a hard-wired fire alarm system in the house, but “it was an antiquated system. We’re confident it hasn’t been working for some time.” There was no backup alarm, Shivers said.
