An “emergency situation” at Fort Benning that prompted officials to temporarily evacuate personnel Wednesday afternoon as a precaution has been resolved.
"The emergency situation has been officially cleared," according to a Facebook post on the U.S. Army post's official page.
Earlier in the day, a soldier at the Warrior Transition Battalion asked for help with a battery jump and misidentified part of the electrical system on the vehicle of the person assisting him.
“Due to the Soldier’s concern for the safety of personnel in the area, he alerted emergency officials to what he felt to be a threat,” officials wrote in the Facebook post.
Fort Benning officials secured the area and evacuated all personnel. Children at the WTB Child Development Center were moved to the School Age Services building on Ingersoll Street, according to the post.
“Officials on scene have determined the situation is not a threat to personnel in the area,” officials wrote in the Facebook post.
