A mother has her stolen 4-year-old child back Friday because of the prompt actions of an off-duty East Point cop.
A woman was pumping gas at the RaceTrac on Camp Creek Parkway when a man jumped in her Camaro and took off — apparently not realizing a little girl was inside shortly before 2 p.m., said Capt. Chris Chandler.
An off-duty officer saw the larceny and sped after the Camaro, catching up with it less than five minutes later on Campbellton Road where the thief abandoned the vehicle, Chandler said.
The little girl Skeye Evans looked reasonably non-plussed by the episode when Channel 2 Action News interviewed her and her mother shortly after the rescue.
But the mom,Tarena Evans, clearly had a very rough few minutes.
“My daughter is safe,” the tearful mother told reporter Tom Regan
Police are looking for a second “accomplice” car that they say the thief escaped in after dumping the Camaro. They didn’t have a description of the accomplice driver.
