Shaniaya Hunter just wanted to know who Sojourner Truth was.

It was during an American history lecture that the 16-year-old junior at Greene County High School asked her teacher for more clarification about the 19th century abolitionist.

What followed was a four-minute rant against the student, whom the teacher, Cory Hunter, called “the dumbest girl I have ever met.”

She was apparently smart enough, however, to record the tirade on her iPad.

Shaniaya turned the recording over to her parents, who reported it to the school in December.

As of Tuesday night, officials at the Greene County School System would not comment on whether Hunter, who is also the boys' varsity basketball coach, has faced any kind of disciplinary action.

Now, an attorney for the family of the student is demanding that Cory Hunter be fired.

“There is no way that man should be in a classroom,” said attorney Ben Windham.
