A man convicted of rape and child molestation against two victims was sentenced to life in prison Monday, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Virgil Leon Chosewood, 30, of Lithia Springs, pleaded guilty to the crimes, and must serve 25 years in prison before he is eligible for parole, the DA said. The DA's office published the outcome of the case on its Facebook page.

“People who commit serious crimes like these will continue to be prosecuted aggressively, because we will not sacrifice the safety and well-being of our children,” DA Brian Fortner said.

In February 2014, Chosewood was caught peeping into the bathroom where a 10-year-old girl was taking a shower, according to investigators. That victim then disclosed additional information about Chosewood, leading to further investigation. A second victim later came forward to police, the DA’s office said.

Chosewood was arrested April 8, 2014, and had remained in the Douglas County jail without bond until his trial.

If he is ever released from prison, he will be a registered sex offender and will remain on probation for the remainder of his life. He also is banned from contacting the victims.
